A growing family needed more from their Grey Lynn villa — more space, more light, and a proper connection to the garden for entertaining. The existing house had charm but the rear was closed off and cramped.
The extension opens up the back of the home with a new kitchen and living addition that flows directly outside to a generous deck and lawn area. Designing around an overland flow path that runs along the side boundary required careful planning, but also created a natural separation that gives the addition its own defined outdoor space.
Materials are deliberately respectful of the original — bevelback weatherboards match the existing villa character, maintaining the street's coherence while giving the rear of the house a fresh, contemporary feel.
